Issue #2074 has been updated by Daniel Gibby.

Affected version changed from 0.24.7 to 0.24.8

We also have this issue. Stopping puppet cleans up the processes left behind.
It appears to be a problem multiple machines we have that have a high load
average.

Note, today is Jan14, so some of these have been around for 6 days.

The biggest clue is that this happens on our machines that have a high load
average, but not on our other machines. Not that it should matter, but the
machines it is happening on are also virtual machines.

We are running 0.24.8. This was also a problem in 0.24.7 according to what the
affected version last was set to.

Bug #2074: Lots of Defunct Processes left behind by puppetd's Execs
http://projects.reductivelabs.com/issues/2074

Author: Hari Sekhon
Status: Needs more information
Priority: Normal
Assigned to:
Category:
Target version:
Affected version: 0.24.8
Keywords:
Branch:

I'm running CentOS 5.2 and have lots of <defunct> processes in the process
table dating back a month.

The processes are all different programs, so I cannot believe that it is the
fault of any of the programs involved considering they are shells (sh) and
common programs.

Restarting puppetd clears them. Surely puppetd should have closed them?
