Issue #3457 has been updated by Michael DeHaan. Assigned to changed from Rein Henrichs to Michael DeHaan
---------------------------------------- Feature #3457: readme should explain what external nodes and reporting features do http://projects.puppetlabs.com/issues/3457 Author: Michael DeHaan Status: Accepted Priority: Low Assigned to: Michael DeHaan Category: Target version: Keywords: Branch: I know this, but a good chunk of our userbase does not know what 'external nodes' is and why they should use it. "The Puppet Dashboard is a Puppet web interface that provides node management and reporting tools. Nodes can be exported in YAML format, allowing the dashboard to be used as an external node classification tool." That last sentence could say something like: "Dashboard can be used to assign Puppet classes and variables to your nodes", rather than "used as an external node classification tool". User does not care that nodes can be exported in YAML format, but cares about what it can do for them, etc. It is probably worthwhile detailing what reporting does, also. I've added a section for dashboard docs at docs.puppetlabs.com which we could add to, there's also room for user docs if you'd like to add to that. Docs will probably drive a fair chunk of users to dashboard, as will the website since it now has a DB section. -- You have received this notification because you have either subscribed to it, or are involved in it.
