Daniel Urist commented on PUP-5564   Re: services status always stopped on Debian Jessie with sysv-rc I installed sysv-rc via the instructions for apt-pinning in the jessie release notes in section 5.6 here: https://www.debian.org/releases/jessie/amd64/release-notes/ch-information.en.html#systemd-upgrade-default-init-system Since this is what's in the release notes, I would assume this is the supported method. This makes sysv-rc the init system by installing the sysvinit-core package, but there are bits of systemd hanging around. I still have the following packages with 'systemd' in the name: libsystemd0:amd64 systemd systemd-shim dpkg reports the systemctl program is part of the systemd package. It looks like what characterizes a jessie sysv installation is that sysvinit-core is installed, and systemd-sysv isn't. It's clunky, but maybe it would be possible to key on that?
