Issue #4212 has been reported by Dan Bode.
----------------------------------------
Bug #4212: hosts fails with err: Could not find a default provider for host if
/etc/hosts does not exist
http://projects.puppetlabs.com/issues/4212
Author: Dan Bode
Status: Unreviewed
Priority: Normal
Assigned to:
Category:
Target version:
Affected version: 0.25.5
Keywords:
Branch:
the host parsedfile provider has the following code:
<pre>
confine :exists => hosts
</pre>
meaning that this provider will only work if the hosts file exists (/etc/hosts
on most platforms)
I would expect puppet to create the file if it does not already exist.
I also would not expect to fail if /etc/hosts does not exist if I am specifying
a different target (ie:)
<pre>
host { 'blah':
ensure => present,
ip => '127.0.0.1',
target => '/tmp/hosts',
}
</pre>
(this issue exists in both .25.x and 2.6.x)
