Issue #4250 has been updated by David Schmitt.

Yeah, the current provider is only a prototype to remove the real hard platform
dependencies. It would be great to have it improved!

Bug #4250: Windows File providers are completely non-standard

Priority: Normal

Target version: 2.6.1
Affected version: 2.6.0rc3

There are now file providers -- added for windows support -- but they're
written very incorrectly.

The normal mode is that each property has a getter and setter, but instead they
were clearly written just to pull some of the 'owner' functionality out.

So, each of the properties still has a 'retrieve' and 'sync' method, which is a
bit silly.
