I use config_version in a convoluted way to find which environment I am in.
If it knew what ${settings::manifestdir} or even $environment was, life would
be a little easier. The way I get around it is that my config_version script
shells out a call to the node classifier (I'm one of the lucky ones who has
one!) and greps for the environment
