Would you consider including this patch in 1.6 ? It's quite harmless, basically 
just a few "gnu/kfreebsd" strings added to existing "confine" statements.

I've just rebased it on facter's master branch and re-pushed it to 
http://github.com/mfournier/facter/tree/tickets/master/4755

With the imminent release of debian squeeze, one can expect more and more 
people will be wanting to use puppet on this platform.
