Josh Cooper commented on PUP-9394   Re: File mode X should work with the = operator Given puppet has pretty much always had "0644 → 0755 behavior" for directories, I don't think we should attempt to change that behavior when using symbolic file modes, as it would be inconsistent when not using symbolic file modes. Also using syntax that looks like what you'd pass to chmod, but actually behaves differently could be surprising in a bad way (granting more permissions than expected). Given that, we're going to close this.
