Issue #7598 has been updated by Daniel Pittman.

Status changed from Investigating to Rejected
Assignee set to Daniel Pittman

Felix, you indeed have the picture. Given that, and the fact that the rest of
this is pretty unclear, I am rejecting this specific ticket.

I can see that there is a real problem somewhere around here: perhaps we need
an explicit (and declarative) mechanism for "looping" of some sort, to allow
people to write the equivalent of my pseudo-code loop above in the language. I
can understand that being valuable, and only getting more so as we do more
dynamic discovery through storeconfigs, etc.

That should go through a separate ticket, though, rather than this one.

Feature #7598: Unpack array variables in string interpolation
https://projects.puppetlabs.com/issues/7598

Author: Randall Hansen
Status: Rejected
Priority: Normal
Assignee: Daniel Pittman
Category:
Target version:
Affected Puppet version:
Keywords: puppetcamp-eu-2011
Branch:

If your goal is this (pseudo-code):

    @file { "host_one" }
    @file { "host_two" }

You should be able to say this:

    $array = [ "one", "two" ]
    @file { "host_$array" }

Instead of this:

    @file { "host_one", "host_two" }

*This ticket is a request for comment, coming out of a discussion at Puppet
Camp EU, 2011. No promises whatever about implementation, but there were
enough people interested to open a public discussion.*
