Issue #9141 has been updated by John Warburton.
<blockquote> So my choices seem to be recommending handing over the keys to MySQL’s root, or cluttering up the install guide with some ugly raw SQL. I opted for the latter. Do you think I should do the former, or just be more clear about why it is the way it is? </blockquote> Right. OK - my flu muddled head missed the bleeding obvious. I made (and forgot) a security decision a long time ago when first setting up the database that it was acceptable for the dashboard user to be the MySQL root user as it is a dedicated database owned by the puppet user. Which means if the puppet account or some other part of the eco system is compromised, then so is the dashboard In my mind, the documentation made a major shift, so I'd like to see some clarification around the latter decision <blockquote> I filed #9274 for this. Does the solution I mentioned there help? </blockquote> Very nice! ---------------------------------------- Bug #9141: Dashbord documentation footnote for creating database via rake based isn't correct https://projects.puppetlabs.com/issues/9141 Author: John Warburton Status: Needs More Information Priority: Normal Assignee: Nick Fagerlund Category: guides Target version: Keywords: Branch: Affected URL: http://docs.puppetlabs.com/dashboard/manual/1.2/bootstrapping.html#fn:rakedbcreate I used the rake commands on a completely fresh MySQL database on a brand new machine for dashboard 1.2rc6, and was surprised the documentation now said to use the command line I don't think this is correct (at worst), and that the foot note system is **really** difficult to read (at best) -- You have received this notification because you have either subscribed to it, or are involved in it.
