What version were you testing? Some query and performance data would also be
awesome.

Bug #9594: DNS queries by puppet are not cached - can lead to very poor
performance

Status: Needs More Information
Priority: Normal
Assignee: Omry Yadan
Category: plumbing
Target version:
Affected Puppet version:
Keywords:
Branch:

Puppet performs really poorly if DNS server reverse lookups are slow.
it appears that no caching is performed, and that the reverse lookup queries
are executed hundreds if not thousands of times per puppetd --test.
I did not analyze if this is happening on the client or on the master (or on
both).

I think DNS queries (both normal and reverse) should be cached, this will
improve puppet performance significantly in some cases.
