Issue #2345 has been updated by Joe McDonagh.

Status changed from Closed to Re-opened

In that case facter on this OS would have to pull in dmidecode as a package.
Probably don't notice because Linux typically includes every OSS package known
to man. I imagine this would be a problem on other operating systems as well
though these days I wouldn't really know. Have you consulted users/customers
using Puppet on non-Linux platforms about the behavior of using dmidecode this
way in Puppet?

Bug #2345: virtual fact on openbsd wrong
https://projects.puppetlabs.com/issues/2345

Author: Joe McDonagh
Status: Re-opened
Priority: Normal
Assignee: Paul Nasrat
Category: library
Target version: 1.6.x
Keywords:
Branch:
Affected Facter version:

The virtual fact on openbsd is wrong on a vmware guest. I currently don't have
any xen systems or anything like that to test, but a fix on openbsd is as
simple as

if Facter.value(:manufacturer) =~ /vmware/i
   result = vmware
end

That's with the patch I recently submitted to get the mfg fact on openbsd.
