Issue #12553 has been updated by Daniel Pittman.

Status changed from Needs Decision to Ready for Documentation
Assignee changed from Randall Hansen to Nick Fagerlund

I agree: we are backing away from the places we let people convince us to allow
`-` in the names of things, as the ambiguity that creates pops up.

Nick, can you put documenting this limitation on your list, please?

Bug #12553: environment names cannot contain a dash, which should be a legal
character
https://projects.puppetlabs.com/issues/12553#change-54338

Author: Garrett Honeycutt
Status: Ready for Documentation
Priority: Normal
Assignee: Nick Fagerlund
Category: environments
Target version:
Affected Puppet version: 2.7.9
Keywords: environments dash hyphen
Branch:

If the environment name contains a dash, running the puppet agent will barf
horribly.

To replicate, setup an environment name with a dash such as

[founda-bug]

restart the puppet master, then run `puppet agent -t`
