execute_external_subcommand uses system() instead of exec() and therefore
always returns successfully if the external command was run, even if the
command returns a non-zero exit status.
Steps to reproduce:
echo "a " | puppet lint /dev/stdin ; echo $?
Expected output:
ERROR: trailing whitespace found on line 1
1
Actual output:
ERROR: trailing whitespace found on line 1
0
