Issue #12856 has been updated by Chris Price.

Clarification of my previous comment:

*Since* we have UX buy in for this, I am strongly in favor of this happening
ASAP.

Bug #12856: top level error handling should show traces
https://projects.puppetlabs.com/issues/12856#change-63034

Author: Patrick Carlisle
Status: Accepted
Priority: Normal
Assignee: Daniel Pittman
Category:
Target version:
Affected Puppet version:
Keywords: traceback
Branch:

Right now we only print backtraces if the trace option is turned on. For many
cases this makes sense, but if an exception actually reaches the top level of
execution and we don't know what to do with it, it is a bug and we should print
a backtrace so that it can be reported more usefully.
