Bug #14715: puppet module tool uses wrong tar command on solaris 10
https://projects.puppetlabs.com/issues/14715
Author: Matthew Flanagan
Status: Unreviewed
Priority: Normal
Assignee:
Category: Solaris
Target version:
Affected Puppet version: 2.7.14
Keywords: puppet module tool
Branch:
puppet/module_tool/applications/unpacker.rb assumes tar command supports the
'z' option to ungzip the downloaded tar.gz file. On Solaris 10 and earlier tar
does not support this option. This causes the following error:
# puppet module install --debug ppbrown-svcprop
Preparing to install into /etc/puppet/modules ...
Downloading from http://forge.puppetlabs.com ...
Installing -- do not interrupt ...
tar: z: unknown function modifier
Usage: tar {c|r|t|u|x}[BDeEFhilmnopPqTvw@[0-7]][bfk][X...] [blocksize]
[tarfile] [size] [exclude-file...] {file | -I include-file | -C directory
file}...
Error: Could not extract contents of module archive.
Error: Try 'puppet help module install' for usage
On Solaris 10 /usr/sfw/bin/gtar usually exists and will work.
On Solaris 8 and 9 a combination of tar and gunzip will be needed.
