Issue #3956 has been updated by Andrew McNaughton.

I'd find this helpful for carrying info on both public an private addresses for 
a given host.  I could then use either address as appropriate in my service 
definitions.

Without this, I have to define 2 host definitions for each host, which tends to 
make the nagios web interface function less well.

OR, I could implement my own version of the nagios_host class.

With the release of nagios3 custom object variables has been supported but 
there is no way to use them within puppet, please see 
http://nagios.sourceforge.net/docs/3_0/customobjectvars.html.
