---------------------------------------- Bug #16380: Terrible error message when certificates don't validate https://projects.puppetlabs.com/issues/16380#change-74118 Author: Ben Ford Status: Accepted Priority: Normal Assignee: Category: Target version: 3.x Affected Puppet version: Keywords: errors Branch: So I put together a simple Proof of Concept CA for a client and kept getting a wacky error during puppet agent runs: # puppet agent -t info: Retrieving plugin err: /File[/var/opt/lib/pe-puppet/lib]: Failed to generate additional resources using 'eval_generate: undefined method `find' for nil:NilClass info: Loading facts in /var/opt/lib/pe-puppet/lib/facter/home.rb I tracked it down to the fact that I was lazy and copied certificates from the puppet master rather than creating my own, and as such, the name didn't match and it didn't validate. The error message should SAY THIS and not just print a nonsensical error message because of a nil object being blindly passed around. The run succeeds, btw.
