I could do with this feature. I have 500 servers to build. They won't be the same, no matter what. When a new server gets built, it may get a package that is newer than the others. I want puppet to know that package version 2,3 or 4 are all OK. I don't want it to grumble if it can't roll the new node back to the old version of the package. Any of the packages I approve will do. Others will not do. The right feature will either (a) give me a regex to choose the ones I want or (b) at least a list. Don't worry about the "philosophy" - we need this and it's natural. EG: package { 'foo': ensure=>'>1.0' } would act as 'latest' if the current package was uninstalled or version before 1.0, but would act as 'installed' otherwise. Similarly, package { 'foo': ensure=>'<4.0' } would act as 'installed' if version is <4.0 but would produce an error otherwise.
