Issue #12722 has been updated by Chip Schweiss.
This problem has been around a LONG time. It's the same as bug #2833.
I got tired of the noise in the logs so I wrote a define and put it in a global
context:
define removepackage {
exec {
"removepackage_$name":
command => "/usr/bin/yum -y erase $name",
onlyif => "/bin/rpm -ql $name";
}
}
Every where I had this:
Package {
some_package:
ensure => purged;
}
I use this instead:
Removepackage {
some_package:
}
----------------------------------------
Bug #12722: package ensure => purged is too noisy!

Author: Bill Tong
Status: Accepted
Priority: Normal
Assignee:
Category:
Target version:
Affected Puppet version: 2.7.10
Keywords:
Branch:
<pre>
$packages = [ "one", "two", "three" ]
package { $packages: ensure => "purged", }
</pre>
is too noisy.
The logs are filled with:
<pre>
/Stage[main]/MODULE/Package[one]/ensure created.
/Stage[main]/MODULE/Package[two]/ensure created.
/Stage[main]/MODULE/Package[three]/ensure created.
</pre>
on every run of puppet-agent.
