puppet agent 3.3.1-rc1 fixed this issue. Basically, the installation process goes all the way through and then it fails to start the service. Keeping an eye on "Services" I noticed the installer trying to restart the service 3 times and then giving up. The "Event Viewer" gives not much extra info.
