Issue #21133 has been updated by Lorenzo Cubero.
I have been trying to add this functionality to Puppet just copying the files
(windows and windows_spec) to Puppet in a windows host.
When I try to update a package already installed:
package { 'App':
ensure => '0.1.1',
provider => 'windows',
source => 'C:\\files\\packages\\App.msi',
}
$> puppet agent -t, returns:
Notice: /Stage[main]/MODULE/Package[App]/ensure: ensure changed '0.1.0' to
'0.1.1'.
Which make me think it work, but actually what happened is that Puppet
installed the newest version without uninstalling the older one.
Just for curiosity, which parameter is Puppet using for noticing if a package
is already installed?
I'm using facter 1.7.3.

Feature #21133: Add versionable feature to windows package provider
https://projects.puppetlabs.com/issues/21133#change-99245
* Author: matt f
* Status: Merged - Pending Release
* Priority: Normal
* Assignee:
* Category:
* Target version: 3.4.0
* Affected Puppet version: 2.7.6
* Keywords: windows
* Branch: https://github.com/puppetlabs/puppet/pull/1871
----------------------------------------
package provider on windows does not report package version:
<pre>
C:\marionette-collective\bin>puppet resource package Puppet
package { 'Puppet':
ensure => 'installed',
}
</pre>
On linux the version is reported:
<pre>
# puppet resource package puppet
package { 'puppet':
ensure => '3.2.1-1.el6',
}
</pre>
This above example is on puppet for windows version 3.2.1
