We've gotten reports of the windows agent crashing, and found a few issues with 
how we are calling native Win32 APIs, effectively using pointers encoded as 
ascii-8bit strings. We need to move to using FFI, which provides a number of 
"type-safe" benefits, e.g. pointer sizes on x86 vs x64 platforms, etc.
