Rodney Beede commented on an issue   Re: modifying user fails if user is logged in The current behavior in Puppet 3.2+ is to log a message in the log that the operation was not successful. usermod reports that the user is currently logged in. I think that is sufficient warning. usermod itself (for Linux) does not provide an option to override this behavior. So the feature request would be to have a way for Puppet to stop a service running as that user. The "obstruction" parameter name is a good idea. Add Comment   Puppet / PUP-1393 modifying user fails if user is logged in Just noticed (on Ubuntu 10.04 - probably valid for more OS'es) - that puppet failed to change a users homedir (the nagios user in this case) - and usermod failed to do so, because the user was logged in (the nrpe service was running). To fix this, one way would be to have a "pre-exec" and "post-exec" hook - which in this case, would be to stop and star...
