Marking this as requiring PUP-1077, "Move Nagios types and supporting from core to a module". There are quite a few bugs and feature requests open against the nagios types, and it seems to be known (at least within the community) to need major work. It seems like moving it out of core and making it a module would be the first step to getting this done. Is is compatible with Nagios config, and thus quite easily configurable via Puppet. It also has some specific attributes that are not present in Puppet's Nagios native types.
