In order for this to be committed it should have a reference to a JIRA ticket. One was automatically created for this PR (PUP-1195). In order to save you the trouble of rebasing I decided to fix up the last details and merge this in. I will close this PR since I added the reference to (PUP-1195), squashed the commits up to the final implementation, and did some small changes to the documentation of the functions. (You are still credited with the commit as the author). Will be right back with a commit SHA once I have merged this in.
