Rob Reynolds commented on an issue   Re: Unable to run factor or puppet agent from start menu on Windows 8/2012 We use 'elevate.exe' specifically when you use the Start Menu for those two items and a decision was reached at one time that it was fine that you would need to install those frameworks. I think this is just an issue of documenting in the troubleshooting section. We have a wider base of .NET Frameworks 2-3.5 installed (default on Windows 7, Windows 2008 and R2) at the moment so it's asking them to install .NET 4.0 or allowing it to work out of the box with Windows 2012. Windows 2003 folks are still going to run into issues either way until they take action. Add Comment   Puppet / PUP-1951 Unable to run factor or puppet agent from start menu on Windows 8/2012 After starting a clean VM for win2012 R2 in Azure, logging in with RDP, installing the puppet MSI (3.5.0-rc1 in this case) trying to run facter or the puppet agent using the start menu items results in an error that it needs the .NET Framework version 3.5 in order to run and it cannot install it.
