It's not catastrophic on *nix the way it is on Windows, but it IS surprising to a user who hasn't already read up on it; principle of least surprise says flip it everywhere. Also, flipping for all platforms would be easier to explain, which is a good thing in and of itself. I'm in favor. Eric Sorenson? Add Comment   Puppet / PUP-2609 Change default of source_permissions to :ignore on Windows When we added the source_permissions attribute in Puppet 3.4, we marked the default value (:use) as deprecated on Windows, since it basically wreaks havoc at all times. The 4.0 boundary is a good time to follow through on that deprecation and flip the default to :ignore on Windows.
