Josh Cooper commented on PUP-2728   Re: zypper should always be the default package provider for Suse osfamily I verified that rug is no longer a default provider on sles 10: # ./puppet resource package grep ensure=latest --param provider package { 'grep': ensure => '2.5.1a-20.20.44.1', provider => 'zypper', } While zypper is the only default, when you do puppet resource package grep, puppet will call the instances method on all suitable providers, and since both zypper and rug are suitable (and both extend the base rpm provider), we end up with two "grep" provider instances for the same package, resulting in the message: Package python-tk found in both rug and zypper. You can tell puppet to only use the specified provider as: # ./puppet resource package grep ensure=latest --param provider=zypper --debug And it won't load the rug package instances.
