The actual puppet code is the same. About the second question, the puppet agent will always connect to the master on port 8140, unless you've overridden the port setting. It works for me when running a remote agent both when the hostname matches and in the default case: #puppet agent -td --server aqnito8ruucw4sl.delivery.puppetlabs.net --certname ops-mon.cisco.com ...
