this patch fixes #2021 [1]. I have done the changes discussed in the
previous patch thread ("convert value to string - fixes #2021").
I introduced tests for my fix as well. However my fix made other
tests to fail.
After some discussion in IRC we figured out, that we need to correctly
convert the values and this conversion should be extracted into a helper
method. This have been done as well.
The fix have been pushed to [2]
