Hmm. I assume you use this with something other than 1.8.1 on the
server.
We've discovered that the YAML that ships with 1.8.1 isn't compatible
with the yaml that ships with other versions, at least when
serializing symbols. This means that there's a large opportunity for
compatibility problems when using vastly different ruby versions on
the client on server.
At this point, I'm only sure of problems with the catalogs, but I
wouldn't bet it's the only issue. A relatively easy workaround is to
install json on your clients and servers and use it for catalog
transfer.
Can others who are using 1.8.1 do some testing to verify that it
actually works with a newer server?
While I don't consider 1.8.1 to be supported -- because of the large
number of heisenbugs I've encountered with it -- I'd still like to do
what I can to allow people to use it when they have to.
