My current testing show that it works fine now. The main issues were 
mostly jruby-openssl issues (which I fixed 6 month ago and are now 
officially merged). But if you want to try make sure to use latest jruby 
git head.

I wanted to do some performance measurement, but didn't had any time to 
do so. The only benchmark I did was on parsing, and it was indeed faster 
on JRuby.

What I really expect to be better in the java world is the memory 
handling and thread concurrency.
