James and I chatted about this as I was working on the patch. Our conclusion was that there wasn't general IPv6 support in Puppet and adding it here wouldn't make a dent in that. But, by the same token, there's no harm in including the possibility here so as not to make more work for the eventual move to IPv6 support.
