The wiki page at

appears to be at least slightly out of date:
"NOTE: It is important to note that currently “master” is the
development branch and 0.24.x is stable, so you will almost always
want to do your development in 0.24.x. When 0.25.x is released this
will swap. The stable branch will be “master” and development will
continue in a 0.26.x (or similar) branch. This alignment makes more
sense and should make it easier for developers/users to understand
where to direct upstream patches."
The described events have come to pass, so maybe this should be
updated? I would do so, but I'm not sure if the current development
lifecycle matches this projection. If someone can catch me up on the
current process, that would be awesome as I've been given time to
write some patches. Once I feel I understand, I can update the wiki.
You're definitely right; things have changed enough that we need to
update this. It'd be especially nice to have info in there about the
testing branch.
Thanks for pointing it out; we'll take care of it.
