Dan -- I'm working on a conflicting patch in the same part of the code (I'm trying to get rid of all calls to Scope#setvar and replace them with "defining expressions" as part of implementing futures). Is the main point here to have $name, $title, etc. available when the parameters are evaluated? If so, we have basically the same goal.
