Hi all,

We've been working on some features for a customer as part of a custom
development project, and we made a mistake internally in how we have managed
the code. Our development team was never told to keep this code private, so
they have been pushing it to our public repository. As a result, we're
planning on removing one feature from the Dashboard in the current branch.
This feature has never been in a release, but is in the current HEAD.

The feature we're removing is the 'baseline' features, which provides some
simplistic compliance analysis of auditing reports. Instead of shipping it as
part of the core, we're adding support for plugins to Dashboard, and will be
shipping it as an external plugin. So, you'll be seeing commits from our devs
today removing just that one feature and the pieces around it that make it
work. Once that's done, we'll be working on adding plugin support in Dashboard.

Some of the work we did for this customer will be exciting to everyone -- e.g.,
you can diff files mentioned in reports, using filebuckets for the actual file
content.

This is a poorly timed mistake on our part, because my plan is for this
compliance plugin to be commercial software. The work we've done so far is a
minimal one-off for a specific customer, but we are planning on using it as the
kernel of a solution we hope other customers with compliance concerns would
find useful. It would either be included in PE (but not be available for free
elsewhere) or be a separate application entirely, but we don't know enough yet
to have this figured out.

This move -- creating simple commercial applications to extract value from the
data Puppet creates -- is exactly in line with what our product vision has been
all along (and what I've been telling people), so hopefully this doesn't look
like some crazy shift and that we've suddenly sold out.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Feel free to email
me privately if you think it's more appropriate.
