If you read the ticket associated with this patch you'll see the original author of the AIX code (Hector Rivas) suggested removing the default, so I'm not terribly worried about AIX.
I agree it is possible that there is an issue with defaults in providers that should be addressed, but it's interesting that this is the only provider in the codebase (per Nigel, I didn't verify) that has both a required feature and a defaulto. Considering that and that these warnings are blocking the releasing of two RC's this week, I figure it's better now to get out annoying info line logging and release and RC than to tackle the interactions of required features and defaults this week.
