Howdy ho!

Right, so this week the puppet team is trying to pick up the tattered
remains of our work.

Tattered? If you have been paying attention to our releases you'll see that
we've been putting together a lot of security releases, which have used
most of the team for the last few weeks. We are now winding down from that,
and there is probably going to be things to do in the aftermath for a while
yet.

So what are we doing this week?

  * Cut a Facter 1.7.0 RC
  * Coming up with a path for getting the prototype for iteration in the
language into the next puppet minor release (3.2).
  * Working through some of the ARM process as a dry run
  * Working toward a Hiera 2
  * Working out a plan for handling reboots during package installation on
Windows
  * SSL enhancements
  * More hiring management!
  * Dealing with some other things found during the security work (I'm not
sure how we are tracking all of that yet)

The item about SSL enhancements is a last minute shift in direction. We
realize that many of the things that we had wanted to get in a 3.2 release
were not going to make it because of various reasons, but we wanted to come
up with something that would still make 3.2 an interesting release. Looking
around we decided to try and tackle the issues that have been plaguing SSL
certificate names and using external certificates in a puppet
infrastructure.

The Hiera 2 work was actually planned, but has been deferred for a long
time by the security work. Our first part of the plan is to collect some
examples of hierarchies, uses of interpolation in hierarchies, and how
people use the various hiera_(array|hash) methods. At the moment, I think
the branch that I created at
https://github.com/zaphod42/hiera/tree/spike/master/2.x-possible may be the
basis for the hiera 2 code.
