Using the puppet-lvm module to create and manage physical volumes, volume groups, and logical volumes works very well for me most of the time. But recently I found on some more of my static servers I had a need to control the initial creation of the physical volumes and volume groups, but they required customization. I created two new options in puppet-lvm that lets me provision a new server using puppet-lvm and then allows that configuration to drift out of the standard if necessary.
