Week of December 16th, 2013 Priorities:
1. Puppet 3.4 and Facter 1.7.4 releases 2. Community Pull Requests 3. Puppet 3.5 planning and work 4. New Language Evaluator Commentary: First, we're very excited that Dan Lidral-Porter started with the Platform Team last week. Welcome, Dan! We bumped up our weekly review of community pull requests to a two-hour meeting, allowing us to be a bit less rushed. Writeup here: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/puppet-dev/8udcqMCJVrA We released both Puppet 3.4.0 and Facter 1.7.4 this week! Whoohoo! Many thanks to all for their hard work on both. Puppet 3.4.0 introduces a regression known to affect Foreman users. The fix is already in stable so a 3.4.1 will be forthcoming. Facter 2.0: Adrien has been making great progress on structured facts support, as well as making sense of the huge backlog of changes in facter/master, some of which will be cherry-picked for Facter 2.0. Kylo is adding a schema for validating facter output to catch type regressions. We're targetting a mid-Jan release for Facter 2.0. New Evaluator: Henrik and Josh Partlow have been hard at work on the new evaluator. We're now running full acceptance tests against '--future parser' and are down to a small handful of failures. Rob has been refining the Windows ACL armature, with a vigorous discussion on puppet-dev - great to see so much community involvement on this issue! Ethan and Josh have been tearing through the NTFS tickets, which have exposed some latent testing bugs. Andy wrote up a proposal re external subcommands for puppet. The doc got lots of great comments, which seem to be converging. Last, Jira went live. This will help the platform team both by eliminating the jira/redmine double-booking of the last 6 months and because Jira migration tasks are in the rear view mirror. Hooray! We have a skeleton crew the next couple weeks; expect things to be quiet.
