Newer masters will entertain older clients.

Do *not* use 0.24.x under any circumstances.

Rolling 0.25.4 (or, while you're at it, 0.25.5) packages for debian is
rather straight-forward. If you can spare a couple hours, you may find
this to be the least painful road.
