Thanks - I'll look into those.
I was more meaning something like:
file { "/etc/ntp.conf":
owner => root,
group => root,
mode => 644,
source => "puppet:///modules/ntp/ntp.conf.2011-05-06",
require => Package["ntp"],
onchange => exec("mail ....."),
}
or something like that.
