I make very limited use of node inheritance. I use
node basenode {
include $operatingsystem
[other stuff I want absolutely everywhere]
}
node default inherits basenode{}
node X inherits basenode {
[more stuff]
}
I have little to add that the others haven't said, except to emphasize that the
whole puppet inheritance model is broken.
I'm increasingly of the opinion that, were I designing puppet 3, I would
completely ditch the custom syntax in favor of a more straight-up ruby DSL and
take advantage of ruby inheritance abilities.
