and just ran an update this morning for an unrelated reason. (Normal
monthly maintenance)
If you expect ruby version updates on CentOS/RHEL you should checkout
theyr policy about these things. Its by design.
There are unofficial CentOS packages for ruby 1.8.7 - i suggest you test
them and find out for yourself if they work:
http://centos.karan.org/el5/ruby187/
Cant be harder than re-installing everything with debian..
