Ah right. that may explain the issue then. in that case do you or anyone know how to remove all trace of this install on my Mac? I usually use AppZapper but there is no app created. I cannot see anything to help undo the install.
I decided to install some CentOS VMs in VirtualBox to learn Puppet instead (should have done that from the start to be honest).
