You can install new packages with a liveHD installation but you might have to upgrade the core from time to time when a new milestone is released. It all depends on what are your habits (every day update addict or once in a while update). For example, for my personal use, I have one machine which is a full install because I install, remove, test, break, fix, things all the time on it. But on another laptop I have only a liveHD + a few extra packages installed because I need this machine to just work out of the box for my Pd needs, and I don't care to have the latest firefox, as long as the one I have installed just "works". Now, we are testing some upgrade procedure, so it would be possible to combine liveHD + heavy update and addition of extra packages. Right now it doesn't quite work (some issues with live-rw partition and core update), but I'm sure we'll get there. Also, if I understand your orginal question correctly, you wanted to know if you could just copy the content of the squashfs image on a partition (to populate a local ext3 fs for example), and then add a grub and generate an initrd, etc ... The good news is that I'm sure this is possible, and it is actually on my TODO (would provide a faster way to get a full installation in the future) but I did not have time to make some tests yet, and probably won't before next sprint. So if you want to try ... :) a. > > 2008/11/15 krgn <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: > > do you have already a some gnu/linux system intalled? if yes, you can copy > > the 'live' folder from the root of the pure:dyne CD/DVD to the root > > partition on your computer and edit the grub.conf file of your normal > > gnu/linux installation to include pure:dyne. you can find an example > > grub.conf (or sometimes its called 'menu.lst' too) in the 'extra' folder on > > the CD/DVD. > > if you don't have another gnu/linux system installed its a little trickier > > and I'm not 100% sure what to advise in that case, but you could consider > > getting an external usb hard-drive and run pure:dyne from that. > > > > On Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 10:50 PM, Сергей Карелин <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > wrote: > >> > >> Hi all! > >> > >> So is subject possible?
