Wotcha peepsJ

So.

After much fxxxaries I have a lovely new puredyne install on my surprise
bday pressie (hey, it was almost an iphone, thankfully one of my mates
talked my Mrs out of it).

It's one of the UK Vodafone deals, so comes with xp rather than the ubuntu
option.

Short Version

Tried to boot from the cute lil' preformatted pd usb stick but no joy -
hangs.

Made own usb installer via the info on the debian page

http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/i386/ch04s04.html.en

and here

Maybe I'm missing something 'cos I'm doing this via iceweasel but finding
those files 'vmlinuz' etc was a drag, I couldn't figure how to find them
through the debian site but finally stumbled on the ftp site via google

http://ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/testing/main/installer-i386/current/image
s/hd-media/

Whilst trying to install with Debian's 'advance graphical installer, via
usb, everytime it got to 'searching network devices', would be told that it
couldn't find one. Interestingly when I tried auto adv install it worked?

Problem with that is, it installed the full system; on an 8G drive that's a
pain.

Then added the new and super-shiny

wget
http://debian.goto10.org/debian/pool/main/p/puredyne-settings/puredyne-setti
ngs_20081120_i386.deb

dpkg -i puredyne-settings_20081120_i386.deb

nice

When booting with '7-rt21' kernel (same point with live install stick) it
hangs here

Udevd-event[745]: run_program: '/sbin/modprobe' abnormal exit

I also tried '1-rt15'

This gets as far as 'debian login', then the

'Failed to start the X server' window

On the plus side

Got Bluetooth and wiimotes running with pure data (cheers mike woz)

Oh joy.

Camera works.

Nothing working yet with the vodaphone 3g/gpsd card.

Vodafone does have an open source division/department/www page/lab

http://www.betavine.net/bvportal/home.html

I'm kinda optimistically thinkin that if people have got it going on ubuntu
it must be doable.

Back to my light-sabre/wiimote:nnnnnneeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwww

Jbz
