i need few externals that are not included in the puredyne packages. the
y area included in pd-extend I am wondering if i can have both without
conflicts.
We don't support this :)
yes i knew that already and i understand the reasons. but still... is
there some workaround for a hopeless case like me? i think i need :
freeverb~ ggee import list-abs mapping unauthorized xsample py iemabs dist~
not sure about all of them, i would need to go and check all my patches
and make a list... but i think most of them.
Our aim for Pd (and other similar software) is to package as it should
be, which means, break it down into small pieces and delegate the
maintenance of those pieces to different people.
The whole Pd distribution should be modular to allow several people to
work on it independantly and for users to pull only what they need, and
also isolate broken externals without blocking the whole distribution of
the software.
There is absolutely no advantages in releasing a monolithic Pd in an
operating system that has a powerful package manager such as most
GNU/Linux distros.
(OTOH, I think Pd extended is an excellent workaround for Windows and
OSX users).
We started to package externals, starting the ones we use the most, and
we're now taking on requests (tickets please) to know which externals
should be packaged next.
We're also looking for extra people to help us on this task, as
we'll start migrating the packages to Debian in a near future and there
are still a few missing.
(we'll provide access to our pbuilder to everyone who is interested in
helping out and agree to be the official maintainer for "this" or "that"
external, OR for a collection of abstractions of course).
