dear list, please pardon me for a slightly off-topic question;
i'm currently looking for choices for getting a new (desktop) PC, for mostly visual stuff (pd gem+pdp and maybe cinelerra) and some audio work. My plan would be to just have it running pure:dyne. However, the array of choices and possible pitfalls are a bit overwhelming, so i would ask you for your opinion on choosing the closest to the 'right' system for a p:d rig:
* graphics card: Nvidia and ATI seem to be out of the question, at least for having a properly supported (and free) graphics setup. What would be your choice for a good, natively 2D+3D accelerated card?
* processor: is quad-core any good for p:d? or should i stick to dual or even single core?
* sound interface: are there any good internal sound cards you had a good experience with? or should i go the USB/Firewire sound interface route?
